Open-Faced Caprese Melts
Toasted bread with fresh tomato, melted mozzarella, and basil.
Ingredients
- 4 thick slices crusty bread (sourdough or ciabatta)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 large ripe tomatoes, sliced
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
- Flaky salt and black pepper
- Fresh basil leaves
- Balsamic glaze for drizzling
Instructions
- Brush bread slices with olive oil on both sides.
- Broil bread for 1–2 minutes until lightly toasted on top. Flip and toast the other side.
- Layer tomato slices and mozzarella on each piece of toast. Season with salt and pepper.
- Broil for 2–3 minutes until the mozzarella is melted and just starting to brown.
- Top with fresh basil and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use the best tomatoes you can find. Slow-roasted cherry tomatoes work well in winter.
